About The Trip
This 4 Day Rangitikei River Adventure Tour covers a remote stretch of river where towering cliffs rise above crystal-clear waters. You'll paddle through calm pools, tackle fun rapids and camp beside the river, under the stars each night. In an area known for it's rugged beauty and sense of being truly of the beaten track, over 4 spectacular days you'll discover a welcome escape far from the crowds.
Why Choose This Tour?
Our Rangitikei River canoeing trips are fully guided, so you won't need to worry about navigation or river safety. With over 40 years' experience, our certified guides provide local insights and extensive canoeing knowledge, they manage the gear and prepare your hearty riverside meals each day. This tour is perfect for active travellers who want a more challenging alternative to the Whanganui River, with the same all-inclusive comfort Canoe Safaris is known for. The distances needing to be covered each day are actually quite short! The long technical rapids and scenic stops take up some time, so choosing to spend 4 days out there means you can cover the most distance, see as much as possible and really make the most of the journey.

4 Day Rangitikei River Itinerary
We depart Ohakune around 7am and shuttle you south towards the Rangitikei River. Arriving at River Valley, your canoe trip starts at the end of the Grade 3 white water rafting section, over the following 4 Days you will cover the deep papa gorges down to Ohingaiti. We pass under several of the huge viaducts on the main trunk railway, as well as the old bungy and rope swing at Gravity Canyon. The first day has some of the best scenery on the river and some challenging and fun rapids. The river gets easier the further down we get.
We can be really flexible with campsites each day and simply pull up to a spot that we feel suits the group for the night - relax and enjoy your surroundings, light a fire, go fishing... One night is sure to be spent at the famous Mangaweka Campground where a dramatic gorge wall becomes the backdrop for this unique riverside tent setting.
If you've done the Whanganui River canoe trips, or some paddling before then we know that this trip wont disappoint you. We've had overseas guests who rate the Rangitikei over many other rivers that they have paddled.
